HOW TO SMOOTH LINES AND WRINKLES AND MINIMIZE PORES

HOW TO SMOOTH LINES AND WRINKLES  AND MINIMIZE PORES

Does it seem like every time you look in the mirror your pores look bigger and there seems to be a new line or maybe even a wrinkle? Are you wondering, how did this happen overnight? How do I minimize those expanding pores, smooth those lines, and soften those wrinkles?

Even as an esthetician I look in the mirror and ask myself these questions, how about you?

If you do maybe it’s time to do a self-recheck and remind ourselves what causes pores to look larger, lines to appear, and wrinkles to show up. And just maybe, we should also take the time to do what I call a Reboot of our own home skin care program.

SELF-RECHECK Why do pores look bigger, and lines appear?

We know that pore size is mostly determined by genetics (intrinsic) but there are other factors that contribute to their size. We also know that extrinsic factors such as sun damage contribute extensively to the creation of lines and wrinkles.

  1. Oil production – sebaceous glands produce sebum which can clog and expand the pores.
  2. Age – collagen and elastin diminish as we age, pores sage or widen due to the loss of these supporting structures, and lines and wrinkles begin to appear.
  3. Sun damage – Ultraviolet rays break down collagen and elastin and reduce skin firmness and support. Sun damage to cells accumulates and over time, lines and wrinkles begin to appear.
  4. Hormonal changes – in puberty sebum production expands the pores, and dead cells accumulate and begin to clog the pores. Inflammatory acne flare-ups can damage and weaken follicle walls. Hormonal changes contribute to changes in collagen, elastin, and other structures of the skin contributing to the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

REBOOT It may be time to exfoliate the skin with an at-home peel.  An at-home peel is a great way to unclog pores, smooth lines, and wrinkles, and refresh the skin. Or are you past due for your Microneedling treatment, Hydro-Peel treatment, or Dermaplaning treatment?

Now take the time to Reboot your skin by evaluating your at-home skin care program. Are you using these important ingredients?

PORE (follicular plugs)

Benzoyl Peroxide – works by reducing the amount of acne-causing bacteria and by causing the skin to peel.

Salicylic Acid – is lipid-soluble, it breaks down comedones,  promotes exfoliation, and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Use;

  • A Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser twice daily for teen acne. (5% to 10% BPO)
  • A Salicylic Acid cleanser once a day for adult acne. (2%)
  • Sun Protection daily rain or shine, snow or cold, sunup to sundown.

LINES AND WRINKLES

Retinoids or Retinol – Vitamin A is the most scientifically proven essential vitamin for the skin. It normalizes cell turnover, regulates sebum, and normalizes the skin.

Vitamin C – The most commonly used antioxidant. Acts as a natural sun protectant, I recommend its use under your sun protection to help filter out the UV that gets through your sun protectant. Vitamin C works synergistically with vitamin E.

Vitamin E – is a lipid-soluble antioxidant that helps protect the cell membrane and boosts the effectiveness of vitamin C.

Sun Protection – Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 30 or above.

Use:

  • A, C, and E morning and night or
  • Use A at night and C and E in the morning.
  • Sun Protection daily rain or shine, snow or cold, sunup to sundown.

It’s time to take a combined approach to the care of our skin. Start by doing a self-recheck by recognizing what causes these conditions and what changes can you make. Is it time to Reboot your home care program? I know I’m ready for a reboot and a visit to my professional esthetician, how about YOU.
