The Minnesota Legislature adjourned their special session early this morning and finished all outstanding budget bills that were necessary to prevent a potential state government shutdown on July 1.  Their actions last night also included providing the BCE with an appropriation for their future operations.

DUE TO YOUR INVOLVEMENT, THE BCE WILL NOW BE GRANTED THEIR FULL APPROPRIATION OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS!  THANK YOU MEMBERS FOR RESPONDING TO OUR ACTION ALERT LAST WEEK.  YOUR INVOLVEMENT AND ADVOCACY RESTORED THIS CRITICAL FUNDING!!  PREVIOUSLY THE LEGISLATURE HAD SOUGHT A NEAR 50% CUT TO THE BCE BUDGET.

Also included in this omnibus state government finance bill (Special Session bill SF 1-Kiffmeyer) is SSPA supported language pertaining to education and licensing requirements for eyelash extension technicians.  SSPA plans to offer special classes in this regard beginning later this summer, should you be a candidate for them in this specialized field.

The Minnesota Legislature will return for their next regular session on February 20, 2018.  During the interim however, SSPA government affairs continues to remain actively involved with our state lawmakers, their staff, and regulatory agencies such as the BCE.  Should you have an agenda item for SSPA to consider advancing at the capitol in the future, don't hesitate to contact our staff.

Thank you again for your interest and participation in SSPA government affairs!!
